Average values of cell tractions on PAA gels of different rigidities (0.5-30.0 kPa) and substrate coatings ( n = 56/66/41, 59/93/45, 80/66/26, 55/50/30, 51/45/32 and 79/64/23 cells for laminin/collagen I/fibronectin substrates and increasing rigidity; mean of at least three independent experiments). The effect of both rigidity and substrate coating is significant ( P < 0.0001, two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA)).
