Schematic of the setup used in the third approach. The excitation intensity is adjusted by a tuneable neutral density (ND) filter and is partially reflected by a coverslip for measuring the power with a power meter (PM). The light is guided into a microscope (M), which excites the DNA2[Ag18]12+ solution. The emission is split with a 50:50 beam splitter cube and filtered by two band-pass (BP) filters; a 600 nm BP filter for the fluorescence and an 850 nm BP filter for the luminescence. The resulting emission is then detected on two different avalanche photodiodes (APDs).
