Quantification of the cell area. In order to visualize the cell outlines precisely, we used the35S::Citrineplants in whichCitrinewas expressed from a constitutively active35Spromoter. The 15-day-old plants were cut into two halves. One was used as a control and the other half was used for the gemma cup removal experiments. The cell area of the dorsal epidermal cells at the tip, middle, and base regions for each sample were counted. n = 25 cells of 12 thalli. ns, not significant (p > 0.05), Student’s t test.
