Base sequence of the U OH -modified DNAzyme ( U OH -DNAzyme). DNA strands containing an adenosine ribonucleotide (rA) at the cleavage site were used as the substrate. Both the catalytically inactive form (without Gd III ) and the active form (with Gd III ) are shown. The original NaA43 DNAzyme was modified by introducing U OH bases, and surrounding nucleobases (shown in orange) were further altered to stabilize the inactive structure in the absence of Gd III ions.
