Left: an example set of RRM domains. We choose domains that are expected to bind single-stranded RNA in a canonical binding mode, as they contain three hallmark conserved hydrophobic residues (black arrows and right part of this panel). The green arrow indicates the position where a Lysine or an Arginine is found in high RNA-binding affinity RRM domains. We propose that, in the domains whose seqeunces are displayed, this residue could be mutated to Lys or Arg in order to obtain an affinity enhancement.
