Adiposity-associated hazard ratio estimates (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals for cancers are shown for males (red) and females (black). All estimates were adjusted for year of birth, smoking, and 15 principal components. Testing for interactions were performed for all adiposity traits and cancers (seeData S4) and p values were adjusted for multiple testing using false discovery rate (FDR) for all tests that were performed. Here we present only the results for body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) and WHR adjusted for BMI (WHRadjBMI). Abbreviations: Liver HCC = hepatocellular carcinoma, EAC = esophageal adenocarcinoma, Kidney TCC = kidney transitional cell cancer, Kidney RCC = renal cell carcinoma, Liver CAC = cholangiocarcinoma, SCLC = small cell lung cancer, NSCLC = non-small cell lung cancer, ESCC = esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.*= interactions were observed at the nominal level of significance (p < 0.05, Wald test)**= interactions between traits and sex on cancer could be observed at 5% FDR.
