Model: spaced olfactory conditioning induces sleep and memory inC. elegans. Sleep induced by butanone conditioning is ALA-dependent and benefits memory retention. The signal that butanone has been sensed passes from the AWC neuron to interneurons including AIY and AIB. Memory requires AIY, thus we hypothesize that sleep may act on connections between AWC and AIY neurons.
