Fly AstA EEs express TrpA1 to sense SD-induced ROS in the gut lumen and enhance AstA production to remotely target Akh-producing cells via AstA-R2, leading to increased Akh secretion and systemic energy mobilization. Similar AstA/galanin-triggered Akh/glucagon secretion and energy loss is observed in sleep-deprived mice.
