Experimental ARPES setting of linear vertical (Ep) and horizontal (Es) light polarizations (h is the Planck constant and ν the frequency of light). Es is fully in-plane and parallel to the x axis. Ep has an incidence angle of 45 o, and thus has 50% of the out-of-plane contribution and 50% of the in-plane contribution parallel to the y axis.
