Accessory monomer expression levels can be used to transform an AND gate into a NOR gate. For each panel, a network schematic is shown on the left, the protein expression levels for each hypothetical cell type are shown in the middle, and the input-output computations for each cell type are shown on the right. The network shown in (D) was identified by screening random interaction affinities for networks of eight monomers (see “Large random networks are expressive and versatile”).
