Letter-value (boxen) plot for the expression of 16p11.2 duplication intermediate phenotype is shown for the sake of illustration. The boxen plot depicts the distribution of quantiles for the expression scores computed by quantifying the presence of derived 16p11.2 duplication intermediate phenotype in both the clinical cohort (left) and the UK Biobank (right). On the basis of a two-sample bootstrap hypothesis test for difference of means with 10,000 bootstrap replicates, the 16p11.2 duplication carriers significantly differed in the expression level from controls both in the clinical cohort ( P < 10 -4 ) and the UK Biobank dataset ( P < 10 -4 ).
