Adjusted hazard ratios are shown for the risk of major depression among individuals with type 2 diabetes according to the number of risk factors within the recommended target range compared with individuals without diabetes. All analyses were adjusted for age, sex, and education. The p value for the linear trend was less than 0.0001. Risk factors and their cutoff values are defined in theappendix (p 4).
