The top panel shows the schematic of enhancing cellular mechanotransduction and promoting cellular spreading by a reversible heterodimeric nanoswitch system comprising the proadhesive divalent cation Mg2+and the integrin-binding ligand RGD. The pictures below show the results of F-actin, vinculin, and nuclei staining of hMSCs cultured in an “ON” or “dual ON” condition for 24 h, indicating enhanced cellular mechanotransduction and promotion of cellular spreading in the “dual ON” condition.
