Histology typically features polio-predominant, perivascular lymphohistiocytic cuffs (solid boxes) and angiocentric infiltrates (dashed boxes). They are most prominent in hippocampus formation. Stain: haematoxylin eosin (H.E.). Anatomical landmarks: Cer: cerebellum; CWM: cerebellar white matter; GLC: granule cell layer of cerebellar cortex; GLD: granule cell layer of dentate gyrus; NCR: neocortical ribbon; PL: pyramidal cell layer; Po: pons; V IV : fourth ventricle; V L : lateral ventricle. Cats: SWE_07. Representative images of RusV-infected cats are presented. All case and control cats (n = 29 each) were analysed. Histopathological diagnoses are provided in Supplementary Tables 3 and 4.
