Schematic of the spindle microtubule averaging workflow: microtubules were sampled at 8 nm spacing along each filament to generate subtomograms, which were pooled into a single average. Once aligned, these were separated into per-microtubule averages and projected along their long axis to increase the signal-to-noise ratio in their cross-sectional view.
