B. brevis grew more efficiently in Trichormus extracts (TEs) than in conventional medium (CM) (A: macroscopic observation; B: turbidity analysis). ISS, inorganic salt solution (MgSO4 solution). Although B. brevis hardly consumed glucose (C), it actively consumed proteinogenic amino acids (D and E) in the medium and TEs. Data are presented as mean ± standard deviation (n= 3). For the statistical analysis of glucose and total amino acid concentrations, comparisons were made between (1) the amounts with and without microorganism culture and (2) each amount without microorganism culture.
