Representative confocal micrographs showing examples of expanded NMJs (4x) from mouse (left) and human (right) muscle biopsies stained with alpha-bungarotoxin to reveal AChRs (cyan) and immunohistochemical labeling of NaV1.4 to reveal Na channels (magenta). Again, note the level of detail that can be observed with regard to the precise distribution and morphological arrangement of each label: in human NMJs, the boundaries of Nav1.4 rims extended further beyond the AChRs compared to those in mice. Images in (A) and (B) were acquired with a 20x objective and treated with a deconvolution algorithm. The scale bars (5 m) correspond to pre-expansion dimensions.
