Simplified mechanism of MoOx/SiO2 activation to a metathesis-active Mo-alkylidene (R=H, alkyl), including reduction, oxidative olefin addition, and reversible deactivation. Our work proposes branched olefins as effective toward MoOx reduction and oxidative olefin addition, while the work by Zhu et al.24 and Gani et al.22 (on WOx/SiO2) proposed branched olefins can facilitate regeneration of post-active sites.
