Location of target antigen recognition determines the efficacy of ADCC by different effector cells. Although an NK-cell-dependent ADCC requires that the cytotoxic antibody recognizes epitopes in very close contact with the cell membrane, a phagocyte-mediated phagocytosis/trogocytosis is most optimal, with target epitopes located a slightly larger distance from the target cell membrane.
