Strategy of viral injection for specifically pharmacogenetic inhibition of CeA GABAergic neurons through bilateral injections of control viral vector (AAV2/9-hSyn-DIO-mCherry) and Cre-driven inhibitory DREADD expressing AAV2/9-hSyn-DIO-hM4Di-mCherry (Gi) into the CeA of Gad2Cremice, respectively. 4 weeks after viral injection, mice received an i.p. injection of CNO, followed by i.t. E. coli infection (3 x 106 CFU). Samples were collected at 0, 6, 12, and 24 h post E. coli infection.
