Antigenic cartography depicts a two-dimensional representation of the antigenic distance based on neutralization by 23 serum pools. Each grid box corresponds to a 2-fold change in neutralizing ID50 titers. Variants (circles) are colored according to their month of emergence since the onset of the pandemic. Designed constructs (triangles) on earlier variants foreshadow the antigenicity of later pandemic variants, as indicated by proximity in the antigenic map.
