Mean posterior dispersal velocity rank of each tip branch in the SARS-CoV-1-like (top) and SARS-CoV-2-like (bottom) phylogenies across all posterior samples grouped by NRR. A star indicates that the SARS-CoV has the greatest mean posterior dispersal velocity rank for that NRR. Additional SARS-CoV-1-like viruses with fast dispersal velocities are also colored and identified by their strain name. NRRs were excluded if the closest-inferred ancestor of SARS-CoV-1 or SARS-CoV-2 had a tMRCA more than 50 years before the most recently sampled virus for at least 50% of the posterior samples (seeSTAR Methods).
