False vacuum decay observation protocol. We initialize all the qubits in the |↑↑…↑〉 state by setting h z > 0 and adiabatically switch h x from 0 to a small value ( h x ≪ J ) over time t 1 = 10 μs. Then, we flip the sign of h z , swapping the true and false vacuum states, and observing the dynamics for time t ≡ t 2 – t 1 . Finally, we turn h x back to 0 as fast as possible ( t 3 – t 2 ≳ 0.18 μs) and measure the spin configuration in the σ^z basis. This protocol is repeated 1,000 times for each value of t .
