Schematic representation of the pH-responsive hierarchical multi-compartments for functioning spatio-controlled diffusion processes and reactions. Carrying out control experiments b)–d) for functioning HMC to undergo one-time release of L-phenylalanine from Azo-Psomes (steps I-III). GOx-converted glucose into gluconic acid, lowering the pH of the environment. This pH drop triggers the release of L-phenylalanine from Azo-Psomes, which is then captured by coacervate matrix. PAL catalyzes ammonia production to increase the pH.
