The primary source of energy for this value chain model is from onshore wind turbines, and in specified scenarios, energy can also be purchased from the grid. Further energy can be stored temporarily in a battery system or reclaimed from previously synthesized hydrogen through a hydrogen fuel cell. This energy is fed to a bank of either alkaline, polymer electrolyte, or solid oxide electrolysis cells, with the hydrogen either compressed further for storage or sent directly to a vector synthesis process. The final vectors are then stored in a port-side set of storage tanks before being loaded onto ships and then transported to the destination in Rotterdam, where they are offloaded into storage tanks. Then, depending on the nature of demand, these vectors are either used directly to meet a demand signal or are converted into gaseous hydrogen.
