The pheromone-sensitive yeast strain expressing PreA was confronted with extracts in DMSO that had been enriched by Amberlite beads from culture supernatants of AfS147 grown in glucose- or xylose-containing minimal medium (GMM or XMM). Two areas of interest each are displayed to reveal cellular projectionsshmoos, indicated by arrowsthat are formed only for the XMM-derived extract, whereas regular budding is evident for the GMM-derived extract or the DMSO mock control.
