Syntropic farming systems (SFS) are designed to cover all stages of ecological successionincluding pioneer species (eg, short-lived annual crops), intermediate species (eg, stone fruits), and climax forest specieswith all components usually sown and planted at the start. In addition to diverse edible, ornamental, medicinal, and otherwise usable plants, so-called service plants for biomass are an integral part of SFS plant consortia.
