In fly larval neuromuscular junctions (NMJs), activity-induced synapse remodeling relies on a secretory autophagic pathway involving the SNARE proteins SNAP29 and Sec22, as well as the small GTPase Rab8. In contrast, developmental synaptogenesis depends on protein turnover via a degradative autophagosome-lysosome pathway.
