Fluorescence (a.u.) and temperature (°C) of a P. putida OUS82 monoculture, mixed 50:50 with an E. coli monoculture at∼16 h. At 26°C, the monoculture fluorescence first increases to around 3,000 a.u. as the culture reaches the OD setpoint (not shown) and then oscillates while slowly dampening over time. Upon mixing, fluorescence drops sharply by half (as half of the P. putida is replaced with E. coli) and continues to decrease as the temperature is set to an intermediate temperature of 32°C. When the temperature is reduced to 26°C, fluorescence rises back toward 3,000 a.u. while oscillating.
