Relative contribution to the entropy production of the different orders, averaged over 200 random groups of seven regions. Pairwise interactions are, across conditions, a dominant contribution to the non-equilibrium regime. In the right panel, we display the pairwise fraction (i.e., the fraction of entropy production due to order 2 in the left panel) with respect to the total entropy production, showing that the contribution of pairwise interactions is greater when the system is operating further from equilibrium.
