An illustrative time-lapse motion capture shows a selected participant navigating the rightward route. Treadmill walking trials were interspersed with real-world walks. During treadmill walking, participants were instructed to mentally simulate their previous or upcoming route. Initially, before their real-world navigation walks, participants engaged in treadmill walking without the additional component of imagined navigation.
