Violin Plot from Scientific Research

The percentage of fully fed (left) and partially fed (center) Ae. aegypti female mosquitoes fed on mouse serum or ultrafiltrated mouse serum of molecular weight less than 10 kDa containing a final concentration of 0.1 mM ATP. Sample sizes were as follows: ATP only (n= 3), ATP with serum (n= 5), and ATP with ultrafiltrated serum (n= 6). Body weight of each mosquito is shown (right). Sample sizes were as follows: ATP only (n= 72), ATP with plasma (n= 94), and ATP with serum (n= 92). The weight of a control unfed mosquito that has been given nothing by membrane feeding (n= 40) is also shown. All data are presented as truncated violin plots, with median indicated by horizontal lines and the bounds of the violin corresponding to the range. The p values were determined using 1-way ANOVA with Tukey’s multiple comparison test to test among groups for (C) and (D), or unpaired t test with Welch’s correction for (A).
