Experimental design. We tracked full-body kinematics from dyads of participants freely dancing to music. Synchrony in dyadic dance might only originate from listening to the same music (shared auditory input, green), but it can also emerge from interpersonal movement adaptation (orange). To study the interplay between music-driven and partner-driven synchrony, we manipulated musical input (whether participants listened to the same or different music, presented through earphones) and visual contact (whether participants could see or not see each other) in a 2 x 2 factorial design.
