HK1-rings constrict mitochondria. Time-lapse images of a HeLa cell expressing HK1-GFP and mitoDsRed were acquired as glucose was removed and re-added (left). Images are maximum intensity projections of z stacks (6 sections, spaced 0.2 m apart). Arrows indicate sites of mitochondrial constriction at positions of HK1-rings. The diameter of the mitochondrial matrix (mean SEM,n= 7) was measured at positions of HK1-rings (right graph). The difference between basal and glucose-depleted mitochondrial diameter was evaluated using one-way ANOVA with Dunnett’s post hoc test.
