Pleistocene samples are represented by red diamonds, whereas Holocene (Wrangel Island) samples are represented by purple dots. The two samples reported in a previous study are labeled with text. Without correction for differences in coverage, one could, for example, erroneously conclude that Wra4.3K has a higher number of highly deleterious (LoF) mutations compared with Oim44.2K, when opposite results are obtained after correcting for differences in coverage by downsampling (see alsoFigure 3).
