The log-log histogram shows relative contact probability vs. 1D genomic distance between read ends. A fraction of PaleoHi-C reads reflects contacts between loci that lie far away in 1D. Power laws are seen in the 1-10 Mb distance range (solid lines), with nearly identical scalings (mammoth: -0.96; elephant: -0.98).
