Brain-bodily arousal actions of LC activity peak in the absence of an MA. Here, LC activity peaks are comparatively small, and arousal-related polysomnographic signatures have so far been described for primary thalamus and heart rate (as symbolized by yellow shading). Furthermore, polysomnographic evidence for a cortical deactivation, evident of an increase in delta power and a decrease in gamma (60–80 Hz) power levels, has been described. For simplicity, gamma power changes are not illustrated.
