Scheme of the experiment. 8-week-old C57BL/6J mice were fed a NASH diet for 5 weeks to induce a steatotic and inflammatory milieu. Mice underwent either ad libitum or an IF (5:2) regimen. At the end of the 5 weeks, mice fed under ad libitum conditions were sacrificed in a fed status while mice undergoing an IF (5:2) regimen were sacrificed either after a 24-h fast (fasted state) or following 4 h of refeeding after a 24-h fast (refed state).
