Country-specific linear regression models predicting perceived fairness of actual carbon footprint inequality with socio-demographic and psychological covariates. All predictors were standardized at the country level, except for ‘top 10% of income’ and ‘female’ (see Methods). Top 10% of income shows a coefficient relative to participants belonging to the ‘general population’ in their country, whereas female shows a coefficient relative to identifying as male. Political orientation is coded from left to right, with higher values representing a more right-leaning political orientation. Sample sizes: Denmark ( N = 931), India ( N = 949), Nigeria ( N = 956) and the USA ( N = 920). The dots in a – c represent point estimates with 95% confidence intervals.
