Total DNA isolated from spots grown on selection medium III contain the yeast-encoded MAT a gene and SynYLG6 / SynJEC3 -encoded chloramphenicol acetyltransferase ( CAT) gene. The experiment was repeated independently six times with similar results. Complete data set is shown in Supplementary Fig. 4 .
