An example field of view with longitudinal sections and cross-sections of myelinated axons illustrates how image contrast varies with the PT of the specimen, the polarization orientation of the detector and the illumination angle. The illumination angle is controlled by transparent sectors of the LCD shown as bright disks and sectors.
