The boxes represent the middle 50% of the distribution (25th and 75th percentiles), the horizontal line in boxes indicates the mean, and the whiskers show the middle 95% of the distribution (2.5th and 97.5th percentiles). The ratio of male to female mortality rates, computed by dividing the male mortality rate by the female mortality rate for each age group and year.
