Changes in head rotation were evaluated as in Usseglio et al. The head rotation angle β between the body axis vector (defined in B) and a line perpendicular to the vector drawn from left ear (EL) to right ear (ER) was calculated for each frame. To pool data from multiple trials, this angle was normalized to the average angle during the 500 ms preceding photoactivation.
