Experimental paradigm. A centrally presented visual cue instructed participants to abduct either their index or little finger. The imperative cue could be either a triangle or square presented around the fixation cross. Each finger abduction predicted an oriented Gabor and participants were required to respond (yes/no) to whether the stimulus was clockwise (CW) or counter-clockwise (CCW) oriented relative to the vertical. In the training phase, actions perfectly predicted the stimulus orientation (100% contingency). This example demonstrates the relationship for a participant trained in index finger abduction to clockwise-oriented Gabor mappings.
