Behavioral task. When clicked, the leftmost radio button always presented a sound with an ITD of500 μs and served as a compact anchor. Similarly, the rightmost radio button always presented a sound with an interaural correlation (IAC) of zero, serving as the diffuse anchor. These anchor buttons were fixed and could not be moved by the participants. During the task, participants were free to click on each of the radio buttons—each of which played the same sound with a given ITD. Participants were free to move the remaining, unfixed radio buttons so that, at the end of the task, radio buttons were organized from more compact sounds on the left side of the screen to more diffuse ones on the right side of the screen.
