Mammalian cells (HEK293) were incubated on ice for 15 min in lysis buffers containing either 150 or 500 mM NaCl. The high density of the 500-mM NaCl lysis buffer prevented the formation of a compacted pellet after centrifugation of the lysates at 15,000g for 10 min.
