Mitochondrial division site is marked by a replicating mtDNA nucleoid at an ER-contact site and likely regulated by ER-derived calcium signaling. DRP1 (dynamin-related protein 1, green circles) is recruited to the contact site and, together with cytoskeletal actin (red filaments), constricts mitochondria to divide.
