Dual mechanisms of CAK activation by MAT1 and T-loop phosphorylation. CDK7 and CDK2/CDK1-cyclin complexes can phosphorylate and activate each other. CDK7 activation toward CDK substrates by MAT1 is phosphorylation-independent. The possible existence of additional, currently unidentified CAKAKs is indicated with a dashed arrow.
