H3K4me3, H3K27ac, and H3K27me3, but not H3K9me3, modified nucleosomes are found in highly intermingled regions of the A compartment in formative state cells. In this analysis, the A compartment of the genome was divided into 5 groups according to the intermingling level. The relative abundance of each type of histone modification was then compared to the average levels, and a Fisher’s exact test was calculated when comparing the density in the highest and the lowest intermingled regions (p < 10−15for all the modifications except H3K9me3).
