(ii) Schematic of the two possible types of two region C-walks considered for calculation of the intermingling metric (IM). Regions are defined as either side of the largest step (x) within each C-walk, with each side extending ¼ of the size of the largest step upstream and downstream of the midpoint of fragment at either end of the largest step (so each region has a maximum size of ½ the largest step size [0.5x]).
